Collecting deposit bottles is simple, effective and, on top of that, environmentally friendly. The Alexander-von-Humboldt-Schule Wittmund (KGS) is showing how it can now also be used to support social projects with the project “Spende Dein Pfand – Jugend bewegt”. The project was launched in Cologne by Shawan Borto in August 2014. Former Wittmund pupil Jennifer Pfister got to know him through a state scholarship and heard about his idea. “It is so easy to carry out and so efficient too,” explains Jennifer Pfister.
The principle of the project is simple. At the school, a large bin is set up at a central collection point, such as a common room or a break hall, with an opening at the top into which the pupils and of course the teachers can throw their empty deposit bottles. The school needs a group that is responsible for the campaign. This can be a specially appointed deposit team, but also the student council. The student council has currently taken on the leadership of the project at KGS Wittmund too, but, Pfister explains, they are considering appointing a dedicated deposit team. This team will then empty the bins, redeem the collected deposit bottles and make sure that the money collected is donated to a charitable cause. In this way it serves not only environmental protection but also the pupils’ social engagement.

Spende Dein Pfand provides deposit containers for companies, clubs, schools and events. We collect free of charge and pass on the proceeds in full to charitable projects.
