Omid Online School: education for girls in Afghanistan
Afghanistan is the only country in the world that bans girls from attending school beyond primary level. The Omid Online School, co-founded by Zahra Hashimi – the country's first online school – closes this gap: dedicated teachers teach girls from grade 7 onwards online, free of charge, and support them all the way to university. Since 2019, Jonte Mai from Bremen has been turning disused chewing gum and condom vending machines into seed dispensers filled with regional, insect-friendly seeds.
